Little Dish - Case Study
"The team at Little Dish make delicious, nutritionally balanced food for toddlers. Every recipe is tasted by 100 Tiny Tasters and approved by the Little Dish nutritionist before leaving the kitchen."
“Since moving our finance function to the team at AFP we have been able to focus on what we do best, healthy food for kids, rather than having to deal with finance and accounting issues, which need the specialist skills that AFP has in house. We love the way the team really cares about our business and are determined to do the best job possible for us. The aspect that I like the most is the fact that our business has more than doubled in size since AFP started working with us, but, from an administration and finance point of view, we have not suffered any growing pains as a result of our growth. A great partner to grow with!”
Little Dish Products
The business is a producer of the first and only range of fresh, natural food for toddlers and young children made with 100% natural ingredients and no added salt or sugar. The founders had a passion to replicate what parents make at home in their own kitchen and their recipes are created with a paediatric dietitian, and every dish is taste tested by kids.
Their products are supplied through supermarket chains such as Tesco, Waitrose & Sainsbury’s and they have more than doubled the size of the business in the past three years.
The business previously employed two in-house accountants, including one who set up the systems and processes from the commencement of trade and the other being an accounts assistant. It became clear to the management team in 2008 that the in-house skills were not needed and a decision was taken to outsource their finance function so they could focus on their core business.
Whilst they recognised that they were experts in the field of sales; marketing and product development, they lacked the required level financial expertise to help grow the business.
The business continues to prosper and grow with the management team able to focus on achieving market growth, including the expansion into overseas markets.
Little Dish appointed AFP Services as their outsourced finance department to look after their day to day finance issues and to provide advice on all aspects of business. The following has been actioned since AFP were brought on board.
Robust financial accounts processes implemented including sales invoice management, through EDI software, with credit control and invoice discounting management.
Complex weekly and four weekly management accounts with margin and variance analysis by product and customer.
Regular reporting for the shareholders and the bank.
Detailed management of a rolling forecast with detailed cash flow management.
Management of a move from factoring to invoice discounting and a subsequent move from ‘small’ ID client to a ‘corporate’ ID client.
